Meet Me in the Freezer

Chicken LipsAfter four years, countless hit remixes for the likes of Morcheeba, Tiga, The Kills and Playgroup, Chicken Lips return on SW London’s Adrift Records for their third studio album Making Faces. This is the production duo’s first foray into full vocal territory and sees the veteran producers explore their soul, dub, funk, electro and disco leanings in their own inimitable style. I have to be honest, this isn't my favorite Chicken Lips record. I think their previous releases Extended Play and the amazing Echoman captured the true Chicken Lips sound that we have all grown to love so much. However, I have really been into the 12-inch singles that have been coming off this album including "Sweet Cow", "White Dwarf", and "Motion Sickness". The B-sides have been flooded with great remixes by Lindstrom, The Juan Maclean, 2020soundsystem, Stevie Kotey to name a few. Most of the remixes add this cosmic disco vibe that the orignials at times lacked.Making Faces will probably be one of those albums that I spend my time with the singles and the re-edits, rather than the bulk of the full length LP. These guys are definately one of the best production duo's in the business, and a personal favorite of mine . Listening to two of these standout re-edits, and you'll be breaking out the wallet at Phonica for these 12-inches.
