What would be more fitting on the afternoon before a STUDIO! night, than posting one of the all-time greatest gay anthems "I Was Born This Way" by gay gospel singer Carl Bean. This record originally came out in 1977 on Motown Records, and was more recently re-released by West End Records. The song was produced by Motown and disco legend Norman Harris and was mixed by the 'one and only' Tom Moulton (whom else). Singer Carl Bean was very passionate about doing this song, not only musically but politically, as it's explained on the West End Record website -
"The lyrics to 'I Was Born This Way,'" he says, "are as relevant today — perhaps even more so in the current political and social climate — than they were when this record was first released back in 1977."
Overall the song is a powerful and amazing disco gem, that will truly serve as more than just a memorable dance classic, however a pollitical anthem for gay rights and equality.

This is so good! It's a bit strange that this Philly song came out on Motown at the time. Speaking about Motown, I read that Motown legend Norman Whitfield has died this week. That's very sad news.
Great tune.. sup with the 128 kbps?
Quit complaining. Be happy you are getting it for free.
This track reminds of the first time I went to my first Gay/Black New York club. Got my ass pinched/grabbed 3 times within the first 30mins. I was like WTF?! When this tune was played and extended to what seemed like a hour, the crowd went nuts, and we literally crying with emotional joy. Like a Christian Revival meeting or something. Slightly surreal for me but, boy what a TUNE!
Legendary DJ Francois K told me about this in 1983. and they have since remixed it for an aids compilation. but love this version. I did not know it be my life story. and Thanks for the great Music.
Mel Cheren of West End Records considered this the most important Gay civil rights song ever made.
We agree. It was played a year and half ago at his funeral and there wasn't a dry eye in the place.
This should be our Gay National Anthem!

Oh and if anyone needs a higher bpm version, there's one posted on our blog.
Just hope the link still works.
