Last Night's KALX Setlist

Hopefully a few of you were able to tune in last night for my guest appearance on UC Berkeley's KALX. I first and foremost want to thank Sergio for having me on. I had a lot of fun talking music, playing records, and hangin' out in the studio. Putting on a radio show would be something I would like to take on in the future, therefore it was nice to get a little bit of an insight of what goes into doing that. I have received a number of comments via facebook, twitter, and email requesting that I post a track listing of last night set, therefore I thought I would go ahead and do that. I apologize because I didn't actually write the tracklist down, therefore the listing below is a little bit out of order. Most of the songs played last night, however can be found on this blog, so happy trails hunting for them. Anyways, I hope those that did tune in, enjoyed the show. Of course, I would love to continue to hear feedback from those that tuned in. Anyways, here is the setlist:

Mucho Macho Revisited

Recently someone asked me to re-post Macho's 1977 erotic disco gem "Mucho Macho" and I thought it would be a good chance to clear up some misled facts about the track that I've discovered over the past year. When I first posted this track almost two years I just assumed that the song was written and produced by the same Macho group that did "I'm a Man", however after some research, that assumption was wrong. This track was released by a different group named Macho, which consisted of two members from The Fatback Band in Bill Curtis, who is credited as a co-writer, and Gerry Thomas who is credited as the song's arranger. The other co-writer of the song is Richard Cromwell, who also wrote a number of songs to The Fatback Band. The "Mucho Macho" track was originally released as a seven-inch single that was divided into two parts and was later remixed to bring both parts of the song together into one extended version. Now that I've cleared up any confusion that I might have caused from previous posts, we can sit back and enjoy this erotic-cosmic gem. Enjoy!

More Mucho Macho

Here is another rare Macho cut, this time "You Got Me Running" from the 1980 album Roll. First off, I'll just say that as a whole, I don't think this record even stands up to there classic 1978 debut I'm A Man. That being said the record has a couple of classic tracks including "You Got Me Running", as well as "Got To Make A Move" and "Montreal". You can tell that as the 1970's were ending and disco as a genre was somewhat dying out, as far as in the mainstream, Macho, which consists of Mauro Malavasi along with co-producer Celso Valli, where experimenting with there sound, using a lot more distorted and gritty guitar riffs. However, not all was lost, as the album cut's of both "You Got Me Running" and "Got To Make A Move" have become two of my many favorite tracks by the group. Even though I think the record is a considerable drop-off from their debut, I still think the record contains some lesser known hidden gems worth owning.

Mucho Macho Disco

Not Actual Artwork, However Another Great Macho LPOne of my favorite cuts of all-time has to be the very hard-to-find erotic disco gem "Mucho Macho" by Macho. Not only is this track hard to find physically, however finding information on this track might even be harder to locate. I haven't been able to hunt down an original copy of the track, however, the song has been released recently as part of BGP Records' Living In The Streets 2 compilation as well as being re-edited by prins Thomas's amazing Major Swelling record. However, one thing is for sure, if it was produced by Macho's Mauro Malavasi then you understand why the track is so great. If you have any information regarding this record, or where I can find an original copy, please let me know.
