...so far into the '06: The Best

We are half way through 2006, and that means it's about that time for my Top 5 Releases of 2006 so far. This year has seen some

really good releases including MSTRKRFT's The Look, Alden Tyrell's Times Like These (The reason this album didn't make the top 5 is because it's kind of a retrospective of classic Tyrell releases), Lindstrom's Another Station, Morgan Geist's Most of All, Reverso 68's Tokyo Disco, along with other great releases from artists like Shit Robot, The Juan Maclean, Tiefschwarz, Kelley Polar, Arthur Russell, Idjut Boys, and countless others I don't feel like writing. (Just go to Phonica Records and order some of this good music)

First off, DFA's recent release, of Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom Relevee EP had a lot of hype on it, and it didn't dissapoint, releasing in my opinion the best record of the year so far. It includes two stellar remix's from Carl Craig and the DFA team. Booka Shade and Hot Chip's sophmore albums are better than their debuts, however the release that came out of left field, had to be Padded Cell's Are you Anywhere?. Now I'm not saying they didn't release quality before (See Signal Failure). I'm just saying Are you Anywhere? is a dance floor jam that has been showing up in every DJ set list from here to Japan. The Lindstrom & Prins Thomas sound machine continues it's hot success by releasing one of the best compositions for a dance song I've ever heard by covering Can's "Mighty Girl". Don't sleep on this shit!

Well, here is the list:
Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom - Relevee EP 12"
Booka Shade - Movements LP
Padded Cell - Are You Anywhere 12"
Hot Chip - The Warning LP
Lindstrom & Prins Thomas - Mighty Girl EP 12"
