Disco Souvenirs From Europe

I'm back from my wonderful trip from London and Paris. A very special thanks to Guillaume Galuz for the hospitality and the good times! Both shows in Paris were amazing and I found a bunch of amazing record stores in both London and Paris that successively broke my wallet. Out of all the record stores that I went to my favorite spots were Vinyl Junkies in London and Croco Discs in Paris. I will be writing about all the records I bought in upcoming posts, so keep checking back for some great disco and italo finds.

One of my favorite purchases on my trip was Motown Sounds 1978 LP Space Dance. I've always been a huge fan of the album cut, "Bad Mouthin", however after listening to the whole record, I realized that this is more than a "one-hit wonder" disco record. With solid funky cosmic disco cuts like "Space Dance", "Groove Time", and "Rich Love, Poor Love", Space Dance is a solid record. This record is also very different than what you would normally find on most Motown Records releases with the record having a very space or cosmic disco feel to it. Overall, it was a nice find in a disco goldmine that was my London and Paris trip.

Hi TJ,

Thanks so much for posting Motown Sounds - Bad Mouthin'!!! That album is amazing; I have a copy I got about 5 or 6 years ago.

There's cover art on a mix CD by Dave Lee (Can't Get High Without You - The Joey Negro Compilation) that I always thought was amazing and original (with that same discotheque space-ship).

Then after buying the Larry Levan Live At The Paradise Garage CD with Bad Mouthin' on it, I decided to search for Space Dance on the internet. Was I surprised when I saw that amazing cover! I bought that thing right up. I found out just what you said: Incredible original music that's hard to believe was coming out of Motown.

Trip sounds like it was great. Thanks again for all the great music.

Peace, Jerome
