To Prove My Love

A song I've been enjoying quite a bit lately is Ned Doheny's late 70's disco classic "To Prove My Love". This funky mid-tempo gem has a bit of a Theo Vaness feel, dancefloor worthy however very smooth. This track was one of Doheny's biggest break-through hit's, originally released on his 1979 album, Prone. Some of Doheny's other great work came not as a singer himself, however as a songwriter for Chaka Khan("What Cha' Gonna Do For Me"), Tata Vega("Get It Up For Love"), and the Average White Band("A Love Of Your Own") among others. That being said, it's nice to see that Ned kept at least one of his better written songs for himself.

Seriously -- could you write one goddamn entry without using the phrase "classic disco"?

You are making the music I love boring. Get a thesaurus.

I don't know if this is somewhat like Theo Vaness. To me it's some kind of jazzy disco, but very nice to listen to!

Nathan,

I agree I tend to use a lot of the same words, which I do try my best to switch things up from time to time. And I'll also try my best to not use the 'classic disco' phrase so much. That being said, I hardly think the last thing I do here on this blog is make disco sound boring. However, if that's the case for yourself, I would recommend not reading this blog. I do this for fun, to be fun for myself and others and to share the music I love. If something like the blog is affecting something you love, like disco, I would highly recommend not participating in it anymore. With that also being said, I hope your able to look past some of the repetitional phrasing and just enjoy the blog. Sometimes I think need to remind people that I do this for free and for my personal passion for disco. So just sit back and enjoy and get some free music!

Keep it up my good man. I follow your blog and listen to all your entries, I'll admit some are not my cup of tea but 9/10 are. All in all, I enjoy reading what you write. Bollocks to Nathan!

sometimes, some of us forget that there was AN AWFUL LOT OF NOT-SO-CLASSIC FORGETTABLE SHIT DISCO that was released. so, the "classic disco" label is kind of a codifier for me of potential quality - hopefully (i'm pretty picky, though - lots of "classics" are overrated in my book).

keep on trucking, Pat. you're doing just fine.

Nathan - go be a rock critic for Rolling Stone or get a hobby. if this blog is making the music you love boring, you're doing something wrong.

Great track dude, love the blog!
You mentioned Tata Vega's 'get it up for love' which I love but also Ned's original version of that track (popularized by Harvey amongst others) and recently re-edited by Social Disco Club '4Love' has got to be one of the most beautiful versions I have heard...
(And Nathan , you're a prick mate , get a life)
