Never Can Say Goodbye

The last few months have been pretty hectic in my life and I apoligize for making this blog so personal over that time. The last thing I want to do is have a blog where I live my life out through posts on the internet. I promise that soon this site will get back to completely being about the music, which is what I want.

I bring this up because unfortunately I have more bad news. My uncle called and told me that my grandmother, whom raised me, is very ill and I need to come out to the east coast and see her. This is very bad news on multiple fronts. First, I love my grandmother very much and she is one of the last remaining links to a huge part of my childhood. Second, I just got reunited with my wife after being a part for three plus months and now will spend our first full weekend in our new city away from each other. Third, I have to unfortunately cancel my deejay slot at tomorrow night's Studio SF, which I was looking forward to doing, especially since it would of been the first time deejaying in this city. Anyways, as you can see it hasn't been a good twenty-four hours. However I guess that's life and you just continue to take it one thing at a time.

For all of you devoted readers out there, I apoligize for this being my last post of the week which makes two short weeks in a row. Like I said, I promise things will return to normal very soon. I have a lot of good music I'm excited about sharing and I'm also going to return to doing the Booga Beat Radio broadcasts that I had to put on hold while all my records were boxed up.

Anyways, today I'm dedicating this post to my ailing grandmother. I definitely wouldn't be the person I am if it weren't for everything she has done for me. A lot of people say that line, however it couldn't be more true when it comes to the influence my grandmother has had in my life.

So grandma, this ones for you....enjoy.

I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles. Truly appreciate all the hard work, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Don't worry about the blog! We'll be here when you sort everything out. Good luck and take care.

I've read your blog for what seems like forever, so I feel (perhaps foolishly) as if I know you -- so, so sorry to hear you're going through this. All the best wishes to you and yours during what must be a rough time. And seconding Nathan, we'll still be here when you get back.

HEY MAN! I FEEL YOUR PAIN. I WENT THRU SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. THERE'S NOTHING ANYONE CAN REALLY SAY TO MAKE THINGS EASIER. ALL I CAN ATTEMPT TO DO IS SHARE MY DISCO STORY.......I was born in 1973. My father was in the radio buisness. He was constantly using my child voice on commercials and voice overs, etc.. In 1977 he got a job at a DISCO station. And at least three times a week he would take me to work and let the D.J's baby sit me all day. I guess he hoped their talent would "rub off" and make his production work easier when working with me. This was back when radio stations smelled of stale cigarette smoke, and the dj's wore fishnet shirts and had beards and long hair, with names like "Tony the Tiger". They all took a liking to me so i used to play around in the production rooms and listen to disco all day long.which was the happiest time in my childhood. The station changed formats in Jan. of 1980. The owner gave ME all the old 45's and albums!! Needless to say i kept on "gettin down " but now i could play the dj. Well, we were on vacation in 1984 and got a call that night, our house was on fire. When we arrived it was burned to the ground and smoldering. The only flames left were blue, and it was my all my disco records saying goodbye with the blue flames of burning petro. Disco did not die that day, it has lived in my heart ever since. Just like your grandmother will ALWAYS be alive in yours!!! Take Care, -Scott Kell

sorry to hear what your going through pat, it sounds like the last couple months have been hectic. i have to say that I really admire your perseverance through this hard time. I think that most people given the circumstances (moving etc) would not be able to keep up their home life never mind updating a world-renowned blog, releasing edits and somehow find the time to DJ! I am deeply sorry to hear about your grandmother I know it is never easy dealing with a time like this especially when it is someone who is so influential to you, but you are obviously a person of strong character and you will make it through. best of luck
