If this Halloween weekend wasn't enough for ya, come hang out this Tuesday night at Amnesia (853 Valencia St., San Francisco) for another rendition of Grow Up. This month, residents Hotthobo, Fenstar, and Pat Les Stache will be joined by SweaterFunk's own Two Step Lou who always drops a great set of boogie and disco jams. It should be another great night. I hope to see everyone out!

Just a reminder that TONIGHT is the monthly disco/ boogie party Grow Up. The night, which is hosted at Amnesia (853 Valencia St bet. 19th/20th), will feature a special guest deejay set from Sean Boogie of San Francisco's boogie crew Sweaterfunk. The East Bay native has a deep vinyl collection of the rarest finds, therefore his set should feature some extremely hard-to-find gems that are seldom exposed. The night will also feature residents Hotthobo, Fenstar, and myself (Pat Les Stache). It should be an amazing night full of disco grooves and boogie gems….what more do you need on a Tuesday?!?!
Just a friendly reminder that I'll be guest deejaying TONIGHT at the monthly Better Days Disco Party located inside Underground SF (424 Haight Street, SF). I'll be dropping disco, boogie, and funky Afro gems all night. The party starts at 9PM, hope to see you there!

I'm excited to announce that TOMORROW NIGHT Grow Up will be celebrating it's 2-Year Anniversary!!! To help us celebrate, the night will include a special guest deejay set from the prolific DJ/Producer The Beat Broker. And as always, the party will include deejay sets from residents Hotthobo , Fenstar (both of Voltaire Records), and myself (Pat Les Stache). Last month's party (at our new location of Amnesia) went off, so tomorrow night should be a fun night.
This Saturday July 23rd I will be a guest deejay at this month's Go Bang! party. We will be celebrating Paradise Garage Legend Larry Levan's birthday (which is actually on July 20). To pay tribute to the deejay pioneer, I'll be doing a full-blown seventies-era disco set that will include Levan favorites like The Peach Boys' "Don't Make Me Wait", Salsoul Orchestra's "How High", Sparkle's "Handsome Man, Logg's "I Know You Will", Double Exposure's "Ten Percent" alongside some more rare titles starting at midnight. A party not-to-be-missed!

Resident deejays Hotthobo, Fenstar, and myself (Pat Les Stache) will be hosting the party in it's new location of Amnesia (853 Valencia Street, San Francisco). I'm very excited because the San Francisco weekly party No Way Back will tonight feature a special guest deejay set from Norwegian re-edit king Todd Terje. Over the past decade, Todd Terje has become a "nu disco" pioneer, releasing a number of notable re-edits, remixes, and original works. As of very recent, he has been releasing a string of superbly clever re-edits of tracks like Canned Heat's "On The Road Again", Stevie Wonder's "All I Do", Chic's "I Want Your Love", and Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" to name just a few, often under aliases Wade Nichols and/or Tangoterje. This will be the first time that I will see him deejay, and from what I've heard from others, he certainly won't disappoint. This event, due to an anticipated large showing, will be held at SOM Bar (2925 16th Street). Overall, tonight's No Way Back party should be a great way to start the weekend!
SFJAZZ opens their 2011 Spring Season tonight with Hugh Masekela, an artist I have been wanting to see live for quite sometime. With his signature sound of blending together both funky African rhythms alongside his superb flugelhorn solos, Masekela became one of the first jazz artists to every grab my attention. Over the past 40+ years, the South African musician has released a number of great songs including "Grazing in the Grass", "Stimela (Coaltrain)", "Ashiko", "Do't Go Lose it Baby", "Jungle Jim", and many others. Some of my favorite albums by Masekela came during the mid-seventies when he released I Am Not Afraid (1974) and The Boy's Doin' It (1975), as well as when he collaborated in 1973 with the Hedzoleh Soundz to release the funky Afro jazz record Masekela Introducing Hedzoleh Soundz. Overall, Masekela has had a huge influence on both African and jazz music, and I am very excited that I will finally have the opportunity to see this legend perform this evening.
This Thursday (TONIGHT), Grow Up is on the move, throwing a "one-off" party at The Milk Bar (1840 Haight Street, between Shrader/ Stanyan). This special event will feature Grow Up residents Hotthobo, Fenstar, and myself (Pat Les Stache), alongside special guests Cool Chris (Owner of the legendary record store Groove Merchant) and San Francisco cosmic-rockers Jonas Reinhardt, who will be putting on a special deejay set. With a superb line-up, this will surely be one party you don't want to miss. I look forward to seeing everyone as Grow Up invades The Milk Bar for a great night of disco, boogie, italo, and what every else we can come up with!

It probably couldn't be anymore fitting that the day I start my new job working for SFJAZZ, would be the same day that one of my favorite jazz artists in Randy Weston will be performing here in San Francisco. Tonight at the San Francisco Yoshi's, the legendary jazz pianist will be putting on a solo performance as well as discussing both his new album The Storyteller and his recently released autobiography African Rhythms. Last summer when I saw him perform during the Stanford Jazz Festival, I was absolutely blown away not just by the incredible performance that both he and the African Rhythms trio put on that night, but also by the priceless insight into African culture and jazz music that he shared with the audience. As I continue to read through his autobiography, I continue to be fascinated by this musicians life that took him from hanging out with jazz giants like Thelonious Monk and Max Roach to moving to Africa, playing occasionally with Fela Kuti and opening up a night club in Morocco. I've always enjoyed how Weston has continued to bring both jazz and African music together, focusing on the music's traditional roots and culture. Tonight, I look forward to opening my mind and taking in all the invaluable wisdom that this jazz legend will certainly share.
This Wednesday night (TONIGHT!) is another monthly installment of Grow Up at Madrone (500 Divisadero Street @ Fell). This month's party will feature a special guest deejay set by the founder/writer of the incredible Soul Persuasion Blog, Kid Inquisitive. His impressive collection of boogie, soul, and disco will certainly be on display, as the East Bay native makes a very rare deejay appearance here in the city. The night will also of course include Grow Up residents Hotthobo, Fenstar, and myself (Pat Les Stache. It should be another fun night, so DON'T MISS OUT!!!
Just as you begin to catch your breathe from New Year's Eve, Grow Up starts the year off right this Wednesday(TONIGHT!) at Madrone (500 Divisadero Street @ Fell). I am very excited for this month's party as it will feature special guest deejay Renmin, who is one-thirteenth (no joke) of San Francisco's superb Sweaterfunk crew. When it comes to Boogie here in the bay, nobody does it better than the Sweaterfunk crew, therefore we are certain this Wednesday night is about to get "way funked-out", as Renmin drops his pricey collection of Boogie and Disco gems! Some parties are important not to be missed...if you live in the bay, this is one of those parties. I look forward to seeing everyone for a fun night as usual!
This Wednesday night(TONIGHT!) is another monthly installment of Grow Up at Madrone (500 Divisadero Street @ Fell). This month's party is the last of the year, therefore we are planning on going out with a bang. The night will include a special guest deejay set from Beat Electric's very own LeBaron, who alongside resident deejays' Hotthobo, Fenstar, and myself (Pat Les Stache) will be droppin' the disco gems all night long. It should be another fun night, therefore I look forwarded to seeing everyone!
This Wednesday night(TONIGHT!), after you're done attending the Giants World Championship Parade (Congrats to the city and the SF Giants on their first World Series Championship), swing by Madrone (500 Divisadero Street @ Fell) for another monthly installment of Grow Up. Our last party was absoluetly crazy with the dancefloor completely packed throughout the night (See Photos). This Wednesday night will feature another solid line-up with special guests Tres Lingerie alongside Grow Up residents Hotthobo, Fenstar, and myself (Pat Les Stache). It should be another fun night, therefore I hope to see everyone!
This Saturday (Oct. 24th), Hotthobo, Fenstar, and I (Pat Les Stache) will be hosting a very special Grow Up party inside the Madrone Lounge (500 Divisadero Street @ Fell). Joining us on this very special occasion will be cosmic disco crusader Sorcecer. For those that might not be familiar with the California native, Sorcecer has released a number of superb cosmic disco twelves on a number of great labels including Tirk, International, and Lo Recordings. If you've been following this blog since it's early days, you might recall me posting Prins Thomas' remix of his 2007 balearic gem Surfing At Midnight (See Surfing to New York). On top of producing his own solo work, Sorcecer also serves as half of the cosmic duo Windsurf. We are very excited to have him join us on what should be one of the best Grow Up parties to date. It should be good times as usual, therefore I hope to see everyone this Saturday night!
This Sunday night (10/10/10), come check out the monthly party Autobahn at Koko Cocktails (1060 Geary Street). I will be one of the special guest deejays that night, which will also include Philadelphia's DJ Shawn Ryan who writes the Dollar Bin Jams blog. I plan to break out some Cosmic disco alongside some Afro funk and maybe even some italo if I can figure how to bring it all together. Anyways, it should be a fun night. Hope to see everyone there!
